What is an Inner Envelope?
Your inner envelope holds your Wedding Invitation suite and features the Individual Names of each Guest that has been invited to your Wedding. This then goes inside the Outer Envelope, which features the Guests’ mailing address.
Why should we use them? Do we really need them?
For those of you who’d like to take the concept a little further, we’d recommend adding them to their order. Inner Envelopes and Envelope Liners are a match made in heaven, so let us tell you why:
These are a delightful way to add an extra layer of both excitement and protection to your Wedding Invitations. If the outer envelope gets damaged during transit/postage to your guests, the Invitations are still protected, and the “wow!” factor will be preserved when they open the inner envelope and see the gorgeous liner inside.
Guests, in their excitement, can rush to open envelopes, and may use a letter opener or even tear the top or side of the envelope in order to get to your Invitation! Unlike the outer envelope, we don’t seal inner envelopes with adhesive. That means once they open the sealed outer how they please, they’ll see the inner envelope is easy to open and will see the Inner Envelope Liner in all of its glory!
Our Inner Envelopes are custom made for your stationery suite, and are always a perfect fit!
Inner Envelopes are a great way to make your Invitation suite more personal. The outer envelope will typically have the Guest’s address on the outside, while the inner envelope will typically list the name of invited guests at that household.
By listing the Invitees’ names it’s very clear who from that household has (or has not) been invited. This can help you avoid embarrassing situations where more guests come than were actually intended to be invited, or where someone who you specifically wish did not come thinks they have been invited.
In a similar vein, you may be having an adults-only wedding; so by only including the Adults’ names on the Inner Envelope, it’s a polite way to let recipients know they’ll need to organize a babysitter.
Individually, they are great additions to a Wedding Stationery Suite, and together they can elevate your Invitations to a whole new level of luxury!
Where did the trend come from?
In olden times, mail was delivered either by hand or via horse and carriage.
Dirt, Dust, weather, and transport could damage an outer envelope. The idea was that once the envelope had reached the destination household, that it could be opened to reveal the pristine Inner Envelope inside.
