Yaay, this is the big moment you’ve been waiting for! He popped the question and you said Yes! My god, you have a shiny new ring on your finger and you’re getting married!

If you´re wondering what to do next (you know, right after you call your mom), don’t get overwhelmed! We’ve prepared a list of *the* 12 things that you need to do next: from taking a ring selfie to narrowing down the guest list.

1. TAKE SOME TIME TO JUST BE HAPPY TOGETHER

First things first; No doubt that your fiancé (it´s time to call him that!) is singing with relief that you actually said yes, and you´re both running around the room together screaming with happiness.

Pop a bottle of Champagne, cry together, laugh together…Seal yourselves up into your engagement bubble for as long as you want to and enjoy the beauty of the moment. You’ll be so glad you did!

2. TELL YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS

I know you want to drop the ring selfie on Instagram ASAP – but hold on – there’s a process! You wouldn’t want your 3rd Cousin over the other side of the country to find out about this major milestone in your life before your mom, would you?

If you Fiance is a traditionalist, then most likely your parents will already know, as he would have asked for their permission. They could be waiting for that call!

Either way, you need to get on that phone and let them know However, chances are that mom and dad already know what’s up (from your fiancé) and are impatiently waiting by the phone for your call.

Siblings next, then your choice of Family and friends.

3. GET A MANICURE

Your fabulous new accessory deserves an impeccable manicure, naturally!

Pamper yourself with a professional nail treatment that will perfectly compliment that big sparkler on your finger. After all, your hands will certainly be in the spotlight for the next couple of weeks, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want the chipped nails to be taking away from your ring´s wow factor.

4. POST A RING SELFIE TO INSTAGRAM AND UPDATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS ON FACEBOOK

Once your nearest and dearest know about your super exciting engagement – THEN it’s time to flex and let the world (AKA everyone else you know) know about it.

This is your time (well, your ring’s) time to shine, so enjoy every minute of it. It’s not everyday you get to be the center of attention and don’t have to apologize for it. (And this is only the beginning!)

5. GET INSPIRED! CREATE A WEDDING PINTEREST BOARD

Years of watching wedding movies couldn’t have prepared you enough for what’s about to come. Trust me, it’s totally different!

Pinterest tends to be most brides’ best friend for wedding inspiration. You should definitely create a Wedding Board – Maybe even a few for different topics (Dresses, Stationery, Seating Arrangements, etc…) – you’ll thank yourself later!

You can also save or screenshot photos on Instagram, Facebook, and save them to a Google Drive, or create a folder on your computer to compile imagery of your favorite wedding elements. This way you can also share them with your Wedding planner, Mom, Maid-of-Honour, friends, fiancé etc.

6. LET THE PREP BEGIN; DAYDREAM (A LOT)

Get a bunch of wedding magazines, follow wedding vendors on Instagram, join facebook groups for newly-engaged in your city and blog-stalk engagement sites.

With your partner, start identifying overall styles and themes you like and give yourselves permission to let your brains turn into their own specialist Wedding Channels.

If you haven’t been planning your wedding since you turned five years old, that’s OK; now’s the perfect time to collect ideas that inspire you and to learn what you want – and what you don’t want – for your wedding.

7. GET YOUR RING SIZED & INSURED

Even if it’s not the most romantic or exciting thing in the world, it could definitely save you some headaches and tears down the line. Make sure it’s sized correctly be a jeweller so it won’t hurt you or accidentally slip off!

Nothing can replace the sentimental value of your ring, but if something happens to it, at least you can get some recompense and try organize a replacement or alternative You could just add it as an extension to your existing home or renter’s insurance policy. It’s usually not expensive at all and is definitely worth the peace of mind.

8. THINK ABOUT YOUR WEDDING TIMELINE AND MAKE A DECISION!

After getting engaged (and sometimes even before!), the question that people ask most is “When is the Wedding?”.

Not that you have to pick a date just to suit them, but it’s definitely time to settle on a date, season, or holiday in mind. This allows your to start planning and booking; it’s always a good idea to book sooner rather than later. Some Wedding Vendors and venues have extremely long lead times, and even waiting lists.

Just bear in mind there’s no official or particular timeline that you have to stick to in order to get married. It’s totally up to you two lovebirds if you want to be engaged for 2 weeks, 6 months or three years. Don’t let anyone push you!

9. THINK ABOUT WHETHER YOU WANT A WEDDING PLANNER

As a first step, you could get an app for your phone, a physical datebook or a calendar to help you to create a timeline for the major wedding-related tasks.

If you’re considering bringing a professional planner on board to help you with logistics and décor, reviews and recommendations are a great starting point. Reviewing their websites, Instagrams (especially the comments!), Facebook pages and their blogs will give you a great idea of their style. ⁣Google Business reviews are also a great indicator of the quality of their work.

10. FIND YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER AND TAKE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

As with everything in life, we all have very different styles, and it’s extremely important that your photographer matches yours. Spend some time collecting images and photos that you love and go with a photographer whose style matches, and whom feels most authentic to you.

Many top wedding/engagement photographers and other in-demand wedding vendors are usually hired more than a year in advance, so the sooner you find and book your photographer, the better. The best ones are worth every penny, and their most popular seasons usually book up extremely fast.

Engagement photos are the ‘practice run’ for your Wedding Photos – what better way to get ready for the real thing than by practicing in front of a very real, professional photographer? Use this chance to get over any camera-shyness that you may have.

11. THROW AN ENGAGEMENT PARTY

After you and your fiance announce your engagement, everyone will want to celebrate this milestone with you – so an engagement party is naturally the next step to take!

You don’t have to make many large wedding decisions just after you get engaged, but if you’re thinking about having an engagement party, and want your friends´help planning it – it may be time to pick your Wedding party.

12. TAKE A BREATHER AND HAVE FUN!

Last but not least, make time to relax—get a massage or sleep-in when you can. Starting on the Wedding planning and execution can sometimes be a long and tiring journey. Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event purely about you and your fiancé. You are allowed to savor the moment and let the news really sink in. Its okay to take time to breath – you’ll be happy you did later on!

Trust us, you’ll have enough stress over the next twelve (or so) months to last you a lifetime  It’s all 100% worth it though!
